On the morning of 10 June 2025, Hongfei Li, Assistant Professor of the Department of Decision Sciences and Corporate Economics (DOT), School of Business, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), was invited to give a lecture on Causal Inference with Observational Data: A Comprehensive Guide to Quasi-Experiments.

This presentation comprehensively introduces the theoretical foundation and practical application of quasi-experimental design, systematically explains the core concepts of causal inference, clear treatment and control groups, and gives case studies of various quasi-experimental methods, such as matching methods, breakpoint regression, double difference and synthetic control. Professor Li analysed the advantages, limitations and applicability conditions of various methods to help researchers make scientific and accurate methodological choices in business analysis, social sciences and related fields.

This lecture will provide important inspiration for the students of the Institute to deeply understand the application of causal inference methods in empirical research.
