The eHealth Research Institute was established in 2013, building upon the discipline of Management Science and Engineering at Harbin Institute of Technology ( A National Key Discipline). The institute is among the pioneers worldwide in digital healthcare research. Professor Doug Vogel, former President of the Association for Information Systems, serves as Honorary Director, and Professor Xitong Guo, National-level young talent, serves as Director.
Bringing together internationally renowned scholars in eHealth area, the institute has developed a distinctive model that integrates a Chinese research context + world-class scholars + HIT team. By 2024, the institute has grown into a leading research hub with 4 postdoctoral fellows, 28 doctoral candidates, 12 master’s students, and more than 30 undergraduates from top universities and have published over 180 academic papers.
The institute has led major national research initiatives, including National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) Major Projects, NSFC Key Projects, the National-Level Young Talent Program, the Ministry of Education’s New Century Talents Program, and the Hong Kong Scholars Program. Focusing on the development of China’s healthcare system, the institute collaborates extensively with leading universities, international health organizations, governments, hospitals, schools, and industry partners worldwide. Its research addresses critical challenges in health management under the context of information interconnectivity, realize the industrialization of scientific research achievements, and strive to build a digital medical healthcare system suitable for China's national condition.
